MIC To Meet Najib Over Party's Allocation In Cabinet

ALOR GAJAH, April 13 (Bernama) -- MIC Secretary-General Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said MIC would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to seek the possibility of a bigger representation in the cabinet. He said MIC should have been given greater representation in the cabinet so as to play a bigger and more active role in all sectors to serve the expectations and aspirations of the Indian community.MIC is a little disappointed when the cabinet was announced recently with MCA getting an additional deputy minister's post and Gerakan given a minister's post but nothing additional for MIC," he told reporters at Bandar Vendor Taboh Naning, here Monday. The new cabinet announced by Najib on Thursday, saw no changes in the portfolio of the MIC representation (one minister, two deputy ministers) with Dr Subramaniam remaining as the Human Resource Minister, Datuk M. Saravanan (Deputy minister of Federal Territories) and Datuk K. Devamany (Deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Dept). The MIC need more opportunities to strengthen the party and remain relevant, he said."If we are given more opportunities to play a more active role in all sectors, it will help the Indian community to progress further," he said.He added that being a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, MIC should also be represented in other decision-making bodies, government agencies and government-linked companies (GLC).-- BERNAMA
