TAIPING: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to help campaign for Barisan Nasional’s candidate in the Bukit Gantang by-election, Ismail Saffian.
He is scheduled to come to the constituency next Monday.
Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin did not deny this when asked Thursday if it was true that Dr Mahathir would help Barisan in its campaigning.
“We will announce it later,” he said when approached after chairing a Barisan closed door meeting near here.
Jerlun Member of Parliament Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir confirmed his father would be coming to lend support to Barisan.
If this happens, it would be the first time in the six years since his retirement that the former premier would be campaigning for Barisan in a by-election.
